What's the Deal With Poker Cards?

Before diving into a game of poker, get to know the value of each card. This is very helpful in deciding whether one is at an advantage or not. And a player who knows such, he or she may raise the bet and win much money.

Poker is played using 52 cards. But a variant of poker called Ross Perot Poker uses less than a full deck. The highest value card is the ace followed by the king, queen and so on and so forth. The lowest is two. The four suits have no varying values. A five clubs is worth as much as a five diamonds.

In poker, each player is dealt five cards and using these cards must beat the other player's hand of cards. The highest combination possible is the royal flush. It is composed of high ranked cards the same suit. It is the hardest hand to get considering it should constitute of an ace, a king, a jack and a queen.

Next is the straight flush. This is achieved by having cards of same suit in numerical order. If two straight flushes appeared, which hand gets the highest card value is considered the winner. After that is the quad or a hand with any four cards of the same denominaton (all four aces, all four kings, etc.)and an odd card to complete. In cases of two players having the same kind of combination the one with the highest-ranking quad wins.

Below the quad is the full house: three of one kind and two of another. In cases again of double, one with the highest-valued three cards wins regardless of the rank of the pair. After the full house is the flush. One holds a flush when all cards in one's hand is of same suit even if they are not numerically ranked. Again if a tie happens, whose card has the highest value wins.

Down to flush is a straight card. A straight card is a group of five cards in numerical order not minding their suits. In cases of ties, highest-ranking cards are the winners. Lower than a straight is three of a kind, 3 cards have the same rank and the other two any other card not similar rank of the three.

Still lower than 3 of a kind is the two pair. A random card accompanying two pairs of cards with same numerical value compose the pair. The lowest ranking combination is one pair. A pair of card with same numerical value is matched up with 3 random cards.

With these ranks of cards, player can decided if the card combination at hand is good or needs another good card. Remember the cards' ranks and value.
